FAQ's
Carolina Blue Sky Zip Line FAQ’s and Tips
Zip Line open Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 noon to 5:00pm
Who's eligible to ZIP?
1. A minor may zip if the parent or guardian is
present with them on the trip and/or signed
minor’s waiver form. Minors 13 - 17 years old
must have a waiver signed by a
parent/guardian and be accompanied by an
adult chaperone. A child 12 or under must
have a parent/guardian on site.
2. Anyone may zip who weighs at least 80
pounds, is 6 years old or older and is at
least 48 inches tall.
3. Anyone may zip who has a level of maturity
that would allow them to handle instructions
and be at height off the ground.
4. Anyone may zip who can listen to instructions
and stay focused. There will be times of rest
and relaxation on the tours while at height.
5. Anyone may zip who is able to reach the
various safety clip-in points. The tour guides
will attach the clients, but the participant
should be able to climb around and reach
hand holds and cables during the tour.
6. In order to zip, the participant must fit in the
harnesses we have. The harnesses we use will
usually fit sizes from 80 pounds up to 260
pounds and are rated to 7,000 pounds.
Smaller or larger sizes are not always
available.
Does it operate in the rain?
Yes, but not in lightning storms or heavy winds.
What do I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing. Most of our participants enjoy zipping in long pants or shorts, T-shirts and running shoes.
Skirts or dresses are not acceptable.
Closed-toe shoes are important. You cannot zip in bare feet or flip-flops. Shoes with laces should be tied.
Lightweight rain gear is recommended in certain conditions.
Important Safety tips!
- Remove valuable items from pockets and secure them.
- Pull hair back and tuck it inside your helmet or shirt. Secure loose items away from the pulley.
- Don't grab the cable!
- The system uses a passive breaking system, so no hand braking is required. This means that you don't have to
manage your own speed and are safer by the design of the tour. Our trained guides will attach you to the
pulley (14,000 pounds) at about an arm's reach away from the cable. Keep your hands off the cable and enjoy
the ride.
- Stay upright!
Hanging up side down creates safety concerns for the tour guides. One, it puts your feet over your head and
you run the risk of passing out. It also puts your shoes and shoelaces up by the pulley and they could get
caught in the pulley wheels. Overall, it is just considered poor practice and should be avoided.
Cameras!
Everyone wants to remember their trip. If you bring a camera, also bring the protective case and a means to
secure it to your person while you have your hands busy holding onto your safety tethers. Dropping your digital
camera is never fun and often, you may not be in a position to recover it.
Safety!
The Carolina Adventure World Blue Sky ZipLine was built by EBL, the leader in Zip Line construction industry in
the U.S.A. There is a recent trend in the market today to install dual cable zip lines. EBL has examined this
trend and the pros and cons of a dual line cable system. EBL has determined that if engineered correctly the
first time, there is no need for a second cable. They believe there is no need to complicate the system by
installing twice the product for the added opportunity for something else to go wrong or get entangled. In
short, Keep It Simple! EBL promotes a thorough inspection schedule and utilizes 26,600 pound test cable. All
of the EBL designs are engineered, wet stamped, and comply with the Professional Ropes Course Association
(PRCA) zip line installation standards.
Eats and Drinks!
You should eat and drink something about two hours before the tour but allow
yourself 30 minutes without food or water just before the tour. You don't want to
show up to a 2-3 hour tour and get hungry along the way. But if you do, we have a snack bar available on site!
It is also hard to zip around with a loose water bottle in your hands. If you have low blood sugar, pack a
candy or energy bar for some fast energy during your trip.
The zip lines themselves can be very long and designed to operate within a minimum and
maximum weight range.
